Fuse security overview

Fuse is the most secure wallet for your Solana assets.

Dual-Layered Security

Your Fuse wallet is controlled by two primary keys that we call your Active Keys. Your Active Keys include:

  1. A Device Key that is stored locally on your phone, protected by Apple’s biometric authentication (Face ID).

  2. A 2FA Key that adds two-factor authentication for all transactions. Your 2FA method is automatically set to your iCloud when you set up Fuse, but you can update your 2FA Key to a Ledger in Settings.

Every Fuse transaction requires access to both verification methods, removing the single point of failure associated with traditional wallets.

Recovery Keys

Recovery Keys are kept off-device and are used to restore access to your Fuse wallet in case you lose an Active Key. By default, your Recovery Key is an email address, but you can have up to three recovery keys using multiple email addresses or any Solana wallet. This means you can use your Phantom or Ledger wallet to recover your Fuse account. As long as you have one of your Recovery Keys, you can “vote” to regain access to the wallet by pairing the Recovery Key with your Device or 2FA Key.

Think of your Device Key as your debit card, but protected by biometrics, and your 2FA Key as the PIN protecting that card. You need both to create a transaction. If you lose your card or PIN, you can always get a new one, but you have to prove that it’s really you (this is what Recovery Keys do). With Fuse, you have complete control over your security stack; whether you opt for maximum convenience or security is up to you.

Note: To recover your Fuse wallet, you always need either your Device Key or your 2FA Key, along with one Recovery Key. Learn more about recovering your lost keys here.

Built On Solana’s Smart Account Standard

Fuse is the next generation of self-custody, built on the Squads Protocol, the smart account standard on Solana. Smart accounts will soon become synonymous with onchain security. By building on Squads Protocol, Fuse enables a new security paradigm for personal custody.
